Srilanka, March 18 -- A police officer from Hatton arrested for allegedly soliciting a bribe of Rs. 20,000 to release a complainant and his wife from legal proceedings, has been remanded till April 1 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali today.
It was revealed in court that this incident occurred after an individual had been arrested along with his wife for allegedly performing sacrificial rituals at the Ginigathhena Kali Kovil. While his wife was later granted bail, the police officer allegedly demanded a bribe from him in exchange for securing his release from the case.
