Sri Lanka, Nov. 12 -- The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land, and Irrigation has said that this year's green gram harvest has exceeded expectations. "While farmers had anticipated about 250-300 kilograms per acre, the actual yield reached 350-400 kilograms per acre. In the Hambantota district alone, the green gram harvest is estimated at 6,500-7,000 metric tons," the Ministry stated.

The Ministry highlighted the key role of women in harvesting green gram. "Women usually earn around Rs. 100 per kilogram and can harvest 40-50 kilograms per day, creating employment opportunities and improving livelihoods in these areas," it added.
