Sri Lanka, Feb. 10 -- The Supreme Court yesterday terminated proceedings relating to five Special Determination petitions challenging the constitutionality of the proposed Protection of Occupants Bill, 2025, after being informed that the Government had decided to revisit the draft legislation.

A three-judge bench comprising Justices Mahinda Samayawardhena, Arjuna Obeyesekere and Sampath Abayakoon was informed by Senior Additional Solicitor General Sumathi Dharmawardena, appearing for the Attorney General, that the Justice and National Integration Minister had granted a one-month period commencing February 3, 2026, to gather fresh ideas and proposals for the Bill.
