Sri Lanka, Nov. 24 -- Mass Media Deputy Minister Dr.Kaushalya Ariyaratne told Parliament on Saturday that the Government is committed to re-open investigations into the murders of journalists and pursue justice, although challenges to ending impunity remain.

"Media is an essential reflection of democracy. We cannot forget the history of journalists being targeted for murder and harassment. No government has had a real interest in investigating crimes committed against journalists. The Good Governance Government received a big mandate for this, but it missed that opportunity.
