Srilanka, March 6 -- Cabinet Media Spokesperson and Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, announced in Parliament today (06) that steps will be taken to establish a chartered institution to enhance the professionalism of journalists.

A Rs. 25 million budget allocation has been set aside for this initiative.

The government will also provide 100 annual scholarships for journalists, with financial provisions already allocated.

As a part of efforts to promote ethical journalism, workshops will be conducted to educate school students on media ethics and good journalism practices.
