Sri Lanka, March 24 -- Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe has urged the government to pursue the goal of building a trillion-dollar economy in Sri Lanka by 2055.

Speaking during an interview with a private television channel, the former president noted that a major global power shift is currently underway in Asia, centred around the Indian Ocean. He emphasised that Sri Lanka should take advantage of this shift to secure its place in the global economy.

Commenting on Sri Lanka's ambitious economic target, Wickremesinghe stated that the country would need to increase its economy tenfold over the next 30 years to achieve the trillion-dollar milestone.
