Sri Lanka, Sept. 1 -- Political sources indicate that former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has not yet received a notice from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). It is further reported that he will respond to such a notice when it is received.

The CID is preparing to question Rajapaksa in connection with the investigation into the attack on protesters at Galle Face on May 9, 2022. Since he is currently out of the country, he will be questioned as soon as he returns, police sources said.

Meanwhile, Deshabandu Tennakoon, the former Senior DIG in charge of the Western Province at the time, was arrested for failing to take proper steps to prevent the attack on protesters. Tennakoon was remanded and is currently out on bail.
