Sri Lanka, March 3 -- The Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) has announced plans for an island-wide strike starting March 5 if the government does not reverse recent cuts to doctors' additional duty and holiday allowances.

According to GMOA Secretary Dr. Prabath Sugathadasa, the 2025 budget reduced the additional duty allowance from 1/80 to 1/120 of the basic salary and the holiday allowance from 1/20 to 1/30. The GMOA is demanding the restoration of these allowances to their previous levels-1/80 for additional duty and 1/20 for holiday pay.
