Srilanka, March 5 -- The Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) has decided to temporarily call off the countrywide strike that was scheduled to begin today (March 5), following discussions with Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa.
GMOA Secretary Dr. Prabhath Sugathapala announced that trade union action has been put on hold until March 21, when the vote on the third reading of the 2025 Budget is scheduled to take place.
The decision to postpone the strike comes after concerns raised by the GMOA regarding cuts to additional duty and holiday allowances for government medical officers under the 2025 budget.
