Srilanka, March 21 -- The nomination of a German woman with Sri Lankan citizenship, who was set to contest from the Galewala area in the upcoming Local Council Elections, has been rejected.

The woman, known as 'Sudu Nona,' was contesting as an independent candidate for the Galewala Pradeshiya Sabha in Matale, marking what would have been the first instance of a foreign-born individual participating in Sri Lanka's Local Council Elections.

After submitting her nomination, she expressed her desire to bring meaningful change at the grassroots level, advocating for the working class and aiming to bridge the gap between the leadership and the community within the Galewala Pradeshiya Sabha.
