Srilanka, May 20 -- A Gazette notification has been issued allowing the import of salt without an import permit until June 10, as part of temporary measures to address local supply issues.
According to Import Controller General Upulmali Premathilaka, any importer with recommendations from the Ministry of Health can import both non-iodized and edible salt during this period.
In line with this directive, Minister of Trade, Commerce and Food Security Wasantha Samarasinghe announced that 250 metric tons of salt intended for local consumption will begin arriving in the country starting today (May 20).
