Sri Lanka, Aug. 13 -- Gampola Zahira College clinched the Sivakumar Friendship Challenge Cup with an impressive 4-0 victory over Jaffna Hindu College in an Under-18 football match played recently at the Jaffna Hindu College grounds.
The winning team received the Sivakumar Friendship Challenge Trophy soon after the match, which was played in front of an enthusiastic crowd. Sivakumar, a former talented sprinter, represented Sri Lanka in the National Junior Football Team in 1976 and later played for the
Intercontinental Hotels football team. In the early 1990s, he migrated to Australia, where he continues to support Sri Lankan sports. The next football encounter between Gampola Zahira and Jaffna Hindu will be hosted in Gampola.
