Sri Lanka, Nov. 20 -- A series of programmes has been organised to provide benefits to the local community in celebration of the Gampola Base Hospital's centenary this year, Hospital Director Specialist Dr. A.A.D.C. Dias said.
The hospital was first established in its current location in 1925 as an organised facility to protect a smaller health unit from flood threats. The initiative was led by prominent figures, including Adigar Tikiri Banda Panabokke. The original building is still in use today, serving the public.
The hospital gradually developed and was upgraded to a Base Hospital in 1994. The Central Government took over its administration in 2002.
