Sri Lanka, Jan. 16 -- Pivithuru Hela Urumaya leader and former Minister Udaya Gammanpila described United States Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Chung as a "curse" and said her departure from the country should be celebrated.
Speaking at a press briefing held today (January 16), Gammanpila said he and his party marked the occasion by eating milk rice, traditionally prepared to celebrate auspicious events.
"The American Ambassador who was a curse to Sri Lanka is set to leave the country today. In fact, the joy of ending that curse is what we were trying to celebrate by eating milk rice," he said.
Gammanpila further stated that the entire country should celebrate the Ambassador's departure.
