Sri Lanka, Dec. 30 -- A tense atmosphere erupted today during a special general meeting of the Galle Municipal Council. The situation escalated shortly after the Mayor began the session, as opposition members protested strongly against council officials, including the Municipal Secretary.

Opposition councillors accused officials of voting irregularities, shouting their objections in unison, which disrupted the council's proceedings. When the Mayor attempted to continue with the agenda, some opposition members reportedly threw water bottles at the Secretariat desk during the announcement of the committee stage.
