Sri Lanka, April 3 -- Cabinet approval has been granted to implement a programme to provide sanitary napkins free for female students studying in most remote schools.

Speaking at the weekly cabinet media briefing held yesterday at the Government Information Department, Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister and Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana said that this programme will be implemented on an annual basis from April 2024 to and 800,000 female students will be benefited through that. The sanitary pads will be distributed among 1.2 million female students who have attained menarche in remote, isolated, estate and urban schools. The total student population in Sri Lanka amounts to four million.
