Srilanka, March 12 -- The Irrigation Department reports that due to heavy rainfall, 42 out of 73 main reservoirs under its management are currently being discharged as of 7:00 AM today (12).

Among the affected reservoirs, seven are in the Ampara District, six in Anuradhapura, five in Badulla, three in Polonnaruwa, and three in Trincomalee. Major reservoirs being discharged include Minneriya, Kaudulla, Kantale, Rajangana, Lunugamvehera, Senanayake Samudra, and Parakrama Samudra.

According to the Director of Irrigation Water Management, H.M.P.S.B. Herath, the current reservoir levels have reached approximately 93% of their total storage capacity.
