Sri Lanka, Aug. 5 -- Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananda Wijepala said that organised criminal gangs have carried out 75 shootings so far across the country in 2025 leaving 40 people dead and 43 others injured.

The Minister said yesterday (04) that 15 teams of the Police Special Task Force (STF) have been set out to conduct daily raids to prevent crimes and shootings in the country.

The most recent shooting incident took place in the Gandara, Kapugama area in Matara on Sunday (03) morning where a 48-year-old fish trader and bus owner named Prasad Nishantha, a resident of the Gandara area, was injured in a shooting, according to Police.
