Sri Lanka, June 9 -- Vana Kushani Nanayakkara, the wife of former State Minister Dunesh Gankanda, has been arrested by the Central Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) over a high-profile income tax fraud case.
Her arrest was carried out under an open warrant issued in connection with a long-pending case filed by the Inland Revenue Department at the Colombo Magistrate's Court. She stands accused of failing to pay over Rs. 700 million in income taxes.
Nanayakkara, a director of Green Lanka Travels, Green Seed Lanka, and Green Sri Lanka Shipping, allegedly evaded tax payments on income generated through these companies despite repeated notices from authorities.
