Sri Lanka, Jan. 28 -- Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe appeared at the Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court today (28) as proceedings resumed in the case filed under the Public Property Act.

The case alleges that Wickremesinghe misused government funds for a private trip to London in 2023, during which he attended a university ceremony honoring his wife, Professor Maithree Wickremesinghe.

Following a statement given to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on 22 August 2025, Wickremesinghe was arrested and remanded until 26 August. He was later released on three surety bails of Rs. 5 million each after Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura considered medical reports submitted on his behalf.
