Sri Lanka, April 3 -- Former North Central Province Chief Minister S. M. Ranjith and his personal secretary, Shanthi Chandrasena, who were each sentenced to 16 years in prison for corruption, have filed an appeal challenging their convictions.

The appeal has been submitted to the Colombo High Court for presentation before the Court of Appeal.

In their petition, the appellants claim that the High Court judge failed to consider the evidence and arguments they presented during the trial.

They have requested the Court of Appeal to overturn their convictions and acquit them of all charges.
