Sri Lanka, Sept. 10 -- Former Mayor of the Moratuwa Municipal Council, Samanlal Fernando, has been arrested by officers from the Commission to Investigate Bribery or Corruption (CIBC).

He is accused of causing financial losses to the government by awarding road development projects of the Moratuwa Municipal Council to his associates.

In 2022, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested Samanlal Fernando in connection with the violent attacks on protesters during the May 9 unrest.
