Srilanka, July 7 -- Former Minister S.M. Chandrasena, who is currently in remand custody, has been denied a request to receive food from outside, according to the Department of Prisons.

The request was made by a former secretary of the minister, not a close family member, which is a requirement for such permissions. As a result, the Prisons Department rejected the appeal.

A medical examination conducted by prison doctors confirmed that the former minister is in good health, and as of July 6, he has been consuming standard meals provided by the prison authorities, prison sources confirmed.

Chandrasena is in custody over allegations of misuse of public funds related to the distribution of seeds during his time in office.
