Srilanka, April 2 -- The Food Policy and Security Committee has recommended the future importation of rice to ensure an adequate supply for consumers and prevent shortages. This comes amid rising rice prices and a market shortage of certain rice varieties, even during the harvesting season.

Discussions were held regarding the Cabinet's attention to importing rice to maintain sufficient stock levels. The committee convened for its fifth meeting on April 1st at the Presidential Secretariat, chaired by Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands, and Irrigation K.D. Lal Kantha, and Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security, and Cooperative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe.
