Sri Lanka, Dec. 26 -- An inmate who had tried to flee from the Magazine Prison in Colombo was shot and injured by prison officers yesterday morning.

The suspect, who was detained at the Magazine Prison, was gunned down and sustained injuries while attempting to escape from the prison. He has been admitted to the Prison Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, a prison officer was also shot during the shooting by the prison officers and he has been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital.

The Department of Prisons is continuing further investigations.
