Sri Lanka, Jan. 6 -- At least five people have died after allegedly consuming an illicit alcoholic beverage in the Wennappuwa-Marawila area, police reported.

Authorities discovered the bodies of three individuals inside a house, believed to have died after drinking the illegal liquor.

Two others, who were admitted to Wennappuwa Hospital in critical condition, later succumbed to their injuries, hospital sources confirmed.

Marawila Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of death and trace the source of the suspected illicit alcohol.
