Srilanka, Feb. 17 -- The Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) will ensure that farmers receive payment the day after they supply their paddy stocks, PMB Chairman, Manjula Pinnalanda said.
The Government has allocated Rs.5 billion to the PMB for purchasing paddy harvests from farmers, with additional financial provisions to be made available as needed, the chairman stated.
The storage capacity of PMB warehouses stands at 210,000 metric tonnes. Pinnalanda emphasised that as the Maha Season harvesting begins in major irrigation areas and the Mahaweli regions, the volume of paddy received at Government warehouses is expected to rise significantly.
