Sri Lanka, Oct. 4 -- A farmer in the Warahena area of Hingurakgoda died yesterday afternoon (03) after a fire broke out in his paddy field.
The 30-year-old from Bogas Junction had been burning paddy straw and stubble left after harvesting to prepare the field for the next season when the fire, fueled by hot weather and strong winds, quickly spread and trapped him.
A local resident saw him caught in the flames and alerted others, but he had already suffered fatal injuries.
The body was taken to Polonnaruwa General Hospital for a post-mortem examination, and Hingurakgoda Police are continuing their investigation.
