Sri Lanka, Nov. 27 -- A comprehensive survey of a 400-acre area surrounding the railway line and main road in Kadugannawa is necessary to mitigate landslide risks, stated former Geology Senior Professor at the Peradeniya University Dr. Athula Senaratne. Speaking to the media after inspecting the site of the recent landslide in Ganethenna, Kadugannawa, which claimed six lives, Prof.Senaratne explained the complex geological situation.

He noted that while the main road and railway line are built on bedrock and are not at direct risk of collapse, landslides occurring in unstable sections of the wider area could negatively impact their structural integrity.
