Sri Lanka, Dec. 20 -- Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya informed Parliament yesterday (19) that the Executive Presidency will be abolished through the proposed new Constitution and a Parliamentary system of governance will be established as promised in the National People's Power (NPP) manifesto.
The Prime Minister said that it is only possible to abolish the Executive Presidency and to establish a Parliamentary system of governance and to remove executive powers of the President through a new constitution and said that a specific time period will be announced later.
She said that the primary concept paper on the draft of the new constitution is expected to be presented to the Cabinet in the near future.
