Sri Lanka, Aug. 27 -- Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon, who was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on August 20, has been released on bail today (27).

Tennakoon was initially remanded by Colombo Fort Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura in connection with investigations into the attack on the 'Aragalaya' protest movement on May 9, 2022, at Galle Face Green, Colombo. He was taken into custody by a team of CID officers at his residence on August 20.

Earlier, the Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court had rejected an anticipatory bail application filed on Tennakoon's behalf, which sought to prevent his arrest. Attorneys representing the former IGP had submitted the application, but the relief was dismiss...
