Sri Lanka, Nov. 7 -- The work on the reconstruction of the Mutthumari Amman Kovil, in the Nakudimbiya division of Citrus Estate in Poddala, Galle, was inaugurated under the patronage of Galle District Parliamentarian Thilanka U. Gamage.

Mutthumari Amman Kovil is an ancient Hindu place of worship mainly of the estate community of the area.

This Hindu shrine which is dedicated to Mariamman, the goddess of rain and fertility, has been revered by several generations without any distinction between Sinhala and Tamil. This religious shrine claims a history of about a hundred years. Both Hindu and Buddhist communities have a long history associated with the Mutthumari Amman Temple.
