Sri Lanka, Sept. 10 -- The owner of the bus involved in the recent tragic accident in Ella has been arrested by police for failing to properly maintain the vehicle used in public transportation.

The 41-year-old resident of Angunukolapelessa was taken into custody by the Ella Police yesterday and is scheduled to be produced before the Bandarawela Magistrate's Court today.

The accident occurred on 4th September when the bus, carrying municipal employees and their families returning from a Nuwara Eliya excursion, collided with an SUV and fell into a ravine near the 24th kilometer post on the Ella-Wellawaya main road.
