Sri Lanka, Feb. 13 -- Tragedy struck Valaichchenai town in Batticaloa early this morning (13) when a 68-year-old woman was killed and three others were injured during a wild elephant rampage.
The victim, who was reportedly selling string hoppers at the time, succumbed to her injuries at the scene after two wild elephants entered the town and surrounding village areas around 6:00 a.m.
The three injured individuals were rushed to the hospital for urgent treatment as panic spread through the community.
Police and wildlife officials have launched a joint operation to drive the animals back into the nearby forest.
