Sri Lanka, Nov. 20 -- An elephant disrupted traffic on the Southern Expressway after breaking onto the road near the Mattala interchange on 18th night.The incident occurred several kilometres off the Mattala International Airport.Road Development Authority (RDA) officials acted to drive the elephant away after it entered the expressway.

The elephant damaged and pushed over the electric fence near the 1.9 kilometre post on the Mattala-bound section of the expressway to gain entry. Reports indicate the animal then travelled nearly two kilometres along the road.

Upon learning of the incident, RDA officials responded promptly, using firecrackers to chase the animal off the expressway near the Mattala interchange.Police officers also had to ...
