Sri Lanka, Feb. 6 -- Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody informed the Parliament yesterday that the Government has successfully reduced the average cost of electricity generation from Rs.37 per unit to Rs.29 per unit recording 22 percent reduction.

Decreasing electricity generation costs, driven primarily by the rapid adoption of renewable energy technologies, we will have potential to reduce consumer electricity bills in the long-term.

He stated that the Government aims to further reduce the generation cost to Rs.25 per unit, which would represent a 32 percent reduction.
