Sri Lanka, Dec. 11 -- Secretary of the All Ceylon Egg Producers Association, Ratnasiri Alahakoon, has assured that the recent surge in egg prices will likely ease within the next two to three weeks.
Alahakoon also dismissed claims that over three million egg-laying hens were destroyed due to recent flooding, calling these reports "completely false."
He explained that the real cause of the price hike and reduced production was the temporary disruption in supplying food and medicines to the hens for about a week. Flooded roads have hindered the transport of rice powder from areas such as Kalmunai and Batticaloa, while damage to paddy mills and animal feed stores has caused shortages in essential feed.
