Srilanka, Feb. 11 -- The Hatton Forest Conservation Office is working to prevent the further spread of a fire that broke out in the Watawala Fines Forest Reserve last night (10).
According to the Forest Conservation Officer, a group of individuals deliberately set fire to the reserve near Hatton Oya.
Due to the prevailing dry weather, the blaze quickly spread to the mountain peaks, destroying approximately 10 acres so far.
Authorities have raised concerns over a rise in deliberate forest fires in the western slopes of the central hills during the dry season.
The public is urged to report any information regarding such activities to the nearest police station or the Hatton Forest Conservation Office.
