Srilanka, May 2 -- The Election Commission has called on heads of government institutions and private sector organizations to grant leave to employees in accordance with the Elections Act, enabling them to cast their votes in the upcoming Local Government Election.
At a press conference held today (May 2), Election Commission Chairman R.M.A.L. Ratnayake emphasized the importance of facilitating leave not only for public and private sector employees but also for university students, tuition attendees, and garment factory workers.
The Commission has issued guidelines recommending leave durations based on the distance to polling stations:
Up to 40 km: Half-day leave
40-100 km: One full day
100-150 km: One and a half days
Over 150 km: Two...
