Sri Lanka, Dec. 5 -- A driver attached to the Gangawata Korale Divisional Secretariat has been handed over to the Kandy Police for allegedly stealing and selling bottled drinking water that had been donated for families affected by Cyclone Ditwah.

According to officials, the driver had used a government cab to transport the disaster-relief water bottles and sell them to a restaurant near the Red Keselwatta area at the Ampitiya Junction.

He was apprehended by a group of local youths, who then handed him over to the police.

Gangawata Korale Divisional Secretary Amila Navarathna said the driver has been immediately suspended for misusing relief items entrusted to the Secretariat. He also noted that the suspect had been employed for only ...
