Sri Lanka, Nov. 14 -- Dr. Wijayatunga Mudalige Harischandra Wijayatunga, a distinguished scholar, lexicographer, author, translator, teacher, lawyer, and politician, has passed away at the age of 94. Born on 25 October 1931 in Minuwangoda, Dr. Wijayathunga's life reflected a remarkable dedication to scholarship, education, and public service.

He was the founder and leader of the Sinhalaye Mahasammatha Bhoomiputra Party and was the party's presidential candidate in 1994 and 1999.
