Srilanka, April 2 -- The programme to provide discounted essential food item packs to 800,000 families who are currently on the "Aswasuma" welfare benefit scheme waiting list began yesterday.
This is being given to people as a relief for the upcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
Accordingly, from yesterday to April 13, the relief pack containing essential food items valued at Rs.5,000 will be available at a 50 percent discount, allowing eligible recipients to purchase it for Rs.2,500 through countrywide Lanka Sathosa outlets.
The package will be issued by selected cooperative outlets (COOPFED) to eligible beneficiaries in areas not covered by Lanka Sathosa.
