Sri Lanka, Jan. 9 -- President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced today that 20,000 to 25,000 new houses will be constructed as part of reconstruction efforts following the damages caused by Cyclone Ditwah.
Speaking at an event in Galnewa-Handungama, Anuradhapura, the President stated that Rs. 5 million will be provided for each completely destroyed home, with partial payments released in stages to ensure timely reconstruction within two to three months.
He added that 6,000 homes were fully destroyed, while 17,000-18,000 were partially damaged, and that an additional 31,000 homes are included in the 2026 Budget for future housing projects.
Allowances of Rs. 500,000 will also be provided to households with partial damage.
