Srilanka, April 10 -- The Matara Magistrate's Court has granted bail to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon, who had been in remand custody over his alleged involvement in a shooting incident.

Tennakoon was charged with conspiring to commit murder in connection with a shooting that occurred outside a hotel in Weligama on December 31, 2023. Following the incident, he surrendered to the Matara Magistrate's Court and was initially remanded until April 10.

He was held at Bogambara Prison and was brought before the Matara Magistrate's Court this morning, where he was granted bail.
