Srilanka, April 8 -- The Hon. Deputy Speaker informed the House that he had received the decision of the Supreme Court regarding the Bill titled "Value Added Tax (Amendment)," which had been challenged under Article 121(1) of the Constitution.

He stated that, according to the Supreme Court, both petitioners in cases S.C. (SD) 05/2025 and S.C. (SD) 06/2025 had chosen not to proceed with the matter, in light of undertakings given by the State. As a result, the Court did not issue a determination on the constitutionality of the Bill.

Additionally, the Hon. Deputy Speaker announced that a vacancy has arisen in the membership of Parliament, effective from April 6, 2025, under Article 66(a) of the Constitution, following the passing of Hon. ...
