Sri Lanka, Sept. 3 -- Sri Lanka Customs today (03) gave an undertaking to the Court of Appeal that it will release a total of 506 detained BYD electric vehicles, subject to the submission of additional bank guarantees. The undertaking was given during a petition filed by John Keells Holdings PLC, the importer of the electric vehicles.

The vehicles were held over an alleged misrepresentation of their motor power under customs tariff classifications.

Speaking to the media on Monday (01, Customs spokesman Seevali Arukgoda said that a second lot of Chinese BYD electric vehicles, believed to be around 1,000 cars, has been held for necessary testing to verify if the engine power had been falsified.
