Sri Lanka, Sept. 19 -- In a significant enforcement breakthrough, the Narcotics Control Unit of Sri Lanka Customs arrested an intelligence officer of the Sri Lanka Air Force at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) on September 18, 2025, for allegedly attempting to smuggle gold into the country.
The 37-year-old suspect, a serving officer with 17 years of service, was intercepted by alert Customs officials while attempting to exit through the staff gate at the arrival terminal. A body scan revealed 40 gold biscuits of 24-carat purity, weighing a total of 550 grams and valued at approximately Rs. 20 million, concealed around his waist.
