Sri Lanka, July 2 -- The Court of Appeal today (July 2) granted leave to proceed with a petition challenging the parliamentary membership of MP Ramanathan Archuna.

The petition, filed by Oshala Herath, Chairman of the Abhinava Niwahal Peramuna, seeks to nullify Archuna's membership, arguing that he was not legally eligible to contest the parliamentary election.

Attorney-at-Law Ashok Baran, appearing for the petitioner, claimed that Archuna was under suspension from his position as a government doctor at the time of his election, making him ineligible to serve as a Member of Parliament under constitutional provisions.
