Sri Lanka, Jan. 28 -- The Court of Appeal has decided to hear the writ petition filed by former President Maithripala Sirisena, seeking to quash the summons issued to him regarding the Easter Sunday terror attack. The hearing will take place before a new five-judge bench on February 6, 2025.
A new bench was appointed to hear the petition as several members of the previous bench were recently promoted to the Supreme Court.
The summons was issued by Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage following a private complaint filed by Father Cyril Gamini and Jesuraj Ganesan, a victim of the 2019 terrorist attack. The complaint led to the summons, requiring former President Sirisena to appear before the Fort Magistrate's Court on October 14, 2023.
