Srilanka, April 2 -- The Court of Appeal today (April 2) once again ordered the relevant Returning Officers to suspend the election process for the Colombo Municipal Council and other local government institutions that have filed petitions challenging the rejection of nomination papers. The suspension will remain in effect until tomorrow (April 3).
During today's hearing, an agreement was reached to accept nominations that included original birth certificates among the previously rejected submissions. As a result, the court issued an order preventing any further steps in the election process, except for the nominations agreed to be accepted, until tomorrow.
Further hearings on the matter have been scheduled for this afternoon.
